The Loudest Voice

Life imitating art – or is it the other way round?

By Nick Hirst

Russell Crowe stars as Roger Ailes – the man behind Fox News

‘The Loudest Voice’ – shows how real life reflects the events in ‘The Shape of Rain’ narrative. I only got to see this series recently – that’s me, always late to the party – telling the story of Roger Ailes as he guides Fox News to pre-eminence in the US television marketplace. The story is true and details his dubious practices, partisan conservatism and multiple sexual harassment accusations that ended his career.

Episode 2, which deals with 9/11, shows how he colluded with the US government to politically spin the events to ultimately cause the war against Iraq.

No words necessary

This perfectly reflects events in ‘The Shape of Rain’ which shows elements of the British media conspiring with government to falsely lead the British people to believe Saddam Hussein was harbouring weapons of mass destruction and could launch an attack in 40 minutes.

Did Saddam really have weapons of mass destruction? Or was that an excuse?

60% of the events depicted in  ‘The Shape of Rain’ are true. I was working for the British Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the time and observed them first hand. If you haven’t already, check out ‘The Loudest Voice’ and read ‘The Shape of Rain’ (click on the cover image in the sidebar on your right to get your copy). The truth is out there!
